If I’m being honest here, Disney Plus has been a bit of a disappointment for me with so many great sounding original series planned but not released yet the one saving grace has been TheMandalorian series and luckily they aren’t taking too long to release the second season with it set to arrive on October 30.
With a lot to like about the show including great acting by Pedro Pascal, Carl Weathers and Werner Herzog among others and a great atmospheric feel and look, you can clearly see why the show has been a big hit but among all the things that make this show so good one of them stands way above the rest and that’s everyone’s favorite little green guy Baby Yoda.
With season 2 just around the corner people are sharing their love for Baby Yoda on Twitter today and I thought with all the bullshit in the news every day maybe something a little bit more lighthearted was called for…so let’s take a look at some of the tweets.
With #HarrisonFord trending on Twitter today due to it being his 78th birthday I decided I’d write something I haven’t in a while, one of my actual lists that I named the blog for. Although Harrison ford has had some television roles , especially early on in his career I will be sticking to movies for this list. any franchises where he was in multiple movies will be listed in 1 entry all together so It doesn’t get repetitive.
1. American Graffiti
I’m only 41 years old so my knowledge of movies only goes back so far, the first film I remember Harrison ford being in was the 1973 comedy/drama American Graffiti. Ford played drag racer Bob Falfa alongside other great actors such as Richard Dreyfuss and Ron Howard. the film was nominated for numerous awards and won 9, including an Academy Award for Best Picture.
2. Star Wars
In 1977 Ford would land the role of Han Solo in the first star wars film and the role would forever cement him in to the minds of movie-goers, he would go on to star in numerous other Star Wars films and it is by far one of his best known roles. The George Lucas films would become a part of film history and Harrison Ford alongside other actors such as Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher would also become a part of that history.
3. Apocalypse Now
Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and released in 1979 Apocalypse Now is widely considered to be one of the greatest films ever made. Harrison ford played Colonel Lucas alongside acting greats such as Marlon Brando,Martin sheen and Dennis Hopper. The film would win a total of 20 awards that year and has achieved legendary status in the movie industry.
4. The Frisco Kid
Released in 1979 and directed by Robert Aldrich the Drama/Western/Comedy would star Harrison Ford alongside Gene Wilder. The film would follow a Polish rabbi (Wilder) as he made his way through the old west in order to open a synagogue in San Francisco. It was nominated for 2 awards.
5. Raiders of the Lost Ark/Indian Jones films
In 1981 Ford would land another career changing role in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the first film where he would play Indian Jones, perhaps the most pivotal role of his career. Directed by Steven Spielberg the film would win 4 Oscars as well as 31 other awards that year as well as being nominated for another 24 awards and would spawn numerous sequels with a new one in production as I type this out.
6. Blade Runner
Released in 1982 and directed by Ridley Scott the Sci-fi thriller Blade Runner would put Harrison Ford in the lead in what would become a classic of Science fiction cinema. Playing Rick Deckard a blade hunter in pursuit of rogue replicants Ford was perfect in the role. Fans have been asking the question “Was Deckard a replicant?” for years now and it’s partially due to Ford’s great acting in the role. He would go on to reprise his role as Rick Deckard in Blade Runner 2049 which was released in 2017.
7. Regarding Henry
Released in 1991 the drama Regarding Henry would give Harrison ford a chance to show his acting skills off in a more serious and dramatic role. He plays a lawyer who is shot and loses his memory and mobility and the film follows his trials and tribulations in trying to recover. Also featuring Annette Bening the film would win 1 award and was nominated for 2 others.
8. Patriot Games
In 1992 Patriot Games would give Harrison ford the chance to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan, a character that would come to be played by many other actors in the future. Also starring Samuel L. Jackson, Thora birch and James Earl Jones the film would win 1 award and was nominated for 3 others that year. He would go on to reprise the role of Jack Ryan in the film Clear and Present Danger but I’m going to count it in with this film as they are connected.
9. The Fugitive
The 1993 action crime thriller would see Ford in the role of Dr. Richard Kimble , a man framed for murder and hunted by police while he tries to find a way to prove he’s innocent. Based on the 1960’s TV series the film was well received. Also starring Tommy Lee Jones and Julianne Moore the film would win 13 awards including an Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Tommy Lee Jones’ role.
10. Air Force One
Released in 1997 the drama thriller saw Ford playing the President of the United States James Marshal and the plot revolved around air force One being hijacked by communists. Also starring Glenn close and Gary Oldman the film won several awards and was nominated for an Oscar.
11. What Lies Beneath
In 2000 Harrison ford would star in the supernatural horror thriller What Lies Beneath alongside Michelle Pfeiffer. the film has you wondering through the whole thing if the house is haunted or if the wife is crazy. a very under-rated film it was nominated for 6 awards and won 7 including an ASCAP award for Top Box Office Film.
12. Cowboys & Aliens
Released in 2011 and directed by Jon Favreau the scifi western Cowboys & Aliens would see Ford playing an old rancher who begrudgingly teams up with a man with no memory to fight against the aliens that are invading their towns. also starring Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Abigail Spencer the film wasn’t very well received even winning a Yoga Award for Worst Foreign Actor but I actually enjoy this film quite a lot so I’m including it in this list. The joys of having your own blog is you do what you want 🙂
These are just some of my favorite films featuring Harrison Ford and are in no way listed in any special order or rank, it’s mostly just by when they came out, oldest to most recent.
Harrison ford has an Indiana Jones movie in the works right now as well a TV series called The Staircase which is in post production.
Happy 78th birthday to one of my favorite actors of all time.
The Last Jedi is trending on Twitter right now with many debating over how good the film really is with some touting it as the best film in the franchise and some even saying it may be one of the best films ever made.
I’m not a crazy Star Wars fanboy, I do like the movies a lot but I’m not nearly as passionate about them as some fans, I can enjoy the new films just as much as the originals but as with anything Star Wars there are countless sides to this debate.
Here are some of the responses being posted on Twitter in regards to The Last Jedi.
Call me a fanboy, but I actually enjoyed The Last Jedi.
Except for that casino scene. Editors can go ahead and kill that entire scene with fire and skip ahead to Luke punking Kylo Ren.
Side note: autocorrect kept trying to switch Kylo to Kylie. NOT a damn Kardashian saga!
I remember when I saw The Last Jedi I walked out of the theater beaming and euphoric about how much I loved it, then being hit with total confusion about the seething hatred so many people have for it. Like I literally don’t get it
The new Disney Plus streaming service is finally up and running and one of their first offerings in the way of exclusives is the series The Mandalorian Which is set in the Star Wars universe somewhere between the fall of The Galactic Empire and the rise of The First Order. The show focuses in on a bounty hunter who is hired to track down a bounty that by the looks of it will turn out to be the main plotline of the series. The title character is played by Pedro Pascal who is best known for his roles on Game of Thrones and Narcos.
What is a Mandalorian?
Before we get into the actual show I thought it might be a good idea to learn a bit about the lore and history of what Mandalorians are really all about. Originating from the planet Mandalore they are known for their prowess in battle and are legendary for being some of the only warriors around that can stand toe to toe with a jedi and are feared throughout the galaxy for their mercenary and bounty hunting skills. Mandalore has pretty much been at war for one reason or another their entire history and Mandalorians are known to never remove their helmets, giving a bit of mystery to their already intimidating personas and they typically use advanced technologies mixed with amazing fighting techniques to overcome their enemies. A couple well known Mandalorians in Star Wars lore are Jango and Boba Fett.
So how’s the show?
There has only been one episode already so there is only so much I can gather about the series at this point but what I’ve seen so far is promising and left me wanting to see more. The production quality is great as you’d expect from Disney, it feels like you’re watching a Star Wars movie rather than a TV show and that is certainly a good thing. The makeup and special effects are done very, very well and help to immerse you in the show.
Another thing I really enjoyed about this first episode was that they sprinkled just the right amount of comedic moments in, I was worried they might do it too much and end up going the Jar Jar Binks route but they balanced the comedy with the seriousness perfectly.
I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone but the first episode did give a few clues as to where this show might be headed. It feels like we’ll be along for the ride while the title character seeks to find redemption and is sure to evolve as we join hm on this journey. The first episode leaves off in a way that makes me pretty sure our main protagonist is going to have to do a 180 in his beliefs and I’m pretty sure we’ll be watching a man struggle with the lines between who he is ,who he was and who he wants to be.
So far the first episode alone is enough to make me want to subscribe to Disney Plus for a long time to come, there are a limited amount of exclusives at the moment but the whole Disney, Star Wars and Marvel catalog is available to watch at your leisure…For $6.99 a month there really isn’t a better deal out there right now.
With Disney’s streaming service set to premier in North America on November 12, 2019 and their recent announcement of content and what the service will be focusing on I thought it a great time to go over some of the originals that you’ll only get with this service and see if it seems like it can compete with the likes of Netflix and Hulu. With a decent price range for the service, $6.99 a month ,which is much lower than any of it’s competitors it certainly has my attention right from the start and with everything that Disney owns rights to there is almost no end to the possibilities for the future.
Set in the Star Wars universe The Mandalorian takes place about 5 years after the events of Return of the Jedi and will follow the pursuits of a bounty hunter who operates in the outer reaches of space here the New Republic has no power. With Pedro Pascal in the title role and an interesting and diverse cast including Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers and Bill Burr it’s shaping up to be a promising series for sure. The Mandalorian will premier the same day as the streaming service on November 12, 2019 and is sure to draw some subscribers in.
I love that they are retelling this classic from 1955, I loved this movie as a kid and have not been able to get my son to watch it but perhaps with a more modern take on it a new generation can be introduced to this great movie. The movie is set to premier on November 12, 2019 and with voice actors like Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux leading the charge it has a good chance of living up to the original.
With Disney Plus coming in November it’s just in time for Christmas specials and Noelle will be their attempt at joining in the holiday fun. Focusing on the lives of Santa’s Son and Daughter and all the crazy things they get into when trying to take over Christmas for him this film starring Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader takes a comedic approach to Christmas and premiers on November 12, 2019.
High School Musical The Series
Although I wasn’t a fan of the original movie myself both my nieces loved it, makes me feel old to think it came out 15 years ago. This 10 episode series will bring fans of the movie what they’ve been missing and will seemingly be a more modern take on the whole idea of the movie. You know, Teen Angst and all that kind of stuff. There are no big names attached to this show yet as far as I could find and I’m not sure on the release date either.
Hero Project will be a Documentary series and will feature the real life stories of real life heroes, not in the way that they have superpowers and fight crime but heroes in how they showed bravery, selflessness and kindness and made a positive difference in the world or people’s lives. The series will air on November 12, 2019 and although there isn’t much info on it yet it does sound like an interesting concept and could pay off.
The World According To Jeff Goldblum
I mean this one speaks for itself , it’s Jeff Goldblum, he’s not only a national treasure but a planetary one. This series will take us on a journey through the mind of Jeff Goldblum as h takes everyday items and introduces us to amazing facts and wonderful stories connected to those items. I mean you could probably have him talk about pocket lint and people would watch so I feel they can’t go wrong here. Premiering on November 12, 2019 this series is sure to be a big hit for Disney Plus.
Bringing back all your favorites from the High School Musical movie for a high school reunion 15 years later this series . The show will bring fans along on the journey as their favorite characters face new challenges and drama as adults. with Kristen Bell as executive producer this is Disney’s second series coming into the streaming service from the High School Musical franchise and premieres November 12, 2019.
Monsters at Work
This series is set in the Monsters Inc. universe and will be a direct sequel to the first movie, taking place 6 months afterwards. There isn’t a ton of info about it yet but it is set to air sometime in 2020 and will feature some of the great voice actors from the original including Billy Crystal and John Goodman.
Based on the book series of the same name by Stephan Pastis the film will be directed by Tom McCarthy and will follow the adventures of an 11 year old boy who believes himself to be the best detective. He runs his own little agency called Failure Inc. and has an imaginary friend who’s a polar bear. It sounds like it will be interesting at the very least and will be a good one to sit down and watch with the kids. I’m not sure on the release date for this but it’s safe to assume somewhere near the launch of Disney Plus on November 12, 2019.
One of the many Marvel originals that will be airing on Disney Plus WandaVision is a series that will revolve around the lives of Scarlet Witch(Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) and Kat Dennings will reprise her role as Darcy Lewis from the Thor movie. The show is set to air in August 2020 and as most Marvel’s ideas is sure to be gold I’m sure.
Another series from Marvel comics, this one will center on Bucky Barnes A.K.A. The Winter Soldier and his partnership with the new Captain America Sam Wilson A.K.A. the Falcon. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will return to play the characters we’re all so used to them playing, the villain Helmut Zemo(Daniel Bruhl) will also make a return. The series will premier in Fall of 2020.
I honestly can’t find a whole lot of info on this one yet , I just know it will be a thing at some point and whether that means a series or a movie doesn’t matter to me as I would love to delve further into the story from both. It’s Star Wars, It’s the Clone Wars, you just can’t go wrong.
Another Marvel series this one will follow the formula of the old What If…? comic books showing fans how things might have been different in the Marvel universe and gives us what if? scenarios that would have caused those differences, for instance what if Jane Foster gained the powers of Thor. the possibilities are endless with this series and I absolutely can not wait for it but I’ll have to because it isn’t slated to air until mid 2021 with a first season consisting of 23 episodes.
One more installment from Marvel Comics Loki will focus on the life of everyone’s favorite Asgardian villain. there isn’t a ton of info since it doesn’t air until Spring of 2021 but we do know it will only have 6 episodes and star Tom Hiddleston
