With the final episode airing last night the newest Star Wars series came to what I thought was a great finale and it also filled in some gaps in the lore that fans have been wanting to learn about for years and years now, aside from the problems arising from trolls online harassing the actress that played Reva the show seemed like it was well liked by most fans.
The series starts out right where most would expect it to, on Tatooine where we first met Old Ben Kenobi so many years ago, with him keeping a watchful eye over a young Luke Skywalker. What I wasn’t expecting and probably a lot of other fans weren’t is getting to see Obi-Wan saving a young Leia from the clutches of an inquisitor and giving us the answer to just how she knew Obi-Wan in the original movies.
The part of the series I think most of us were excited for was getting to see Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader and in my opinion he did not let us down, I felt Vader was even more intimidating on this show than he ever was in the original movies and the fights between him and Obi-Wan were, in my opinion, exactly as they should have been. Sure Obi-Wan beat him no problem on Mustafar back in the day but this series takes place about 10 years after Obi-Wan stopped actively practicing being a Jedi, which also means Darth Vader had 10 years of training in the dark side so the fact that they seemed evenly matched in this series made perfect sense to me.
Although it was cool to see the inquisitors in live action I think they dropped the ball with their design of the Grand Inquisitor, every time I saw him on screen it took me out of the show and reminded me that it’s just people in makeup pretending and that’s not what you want with any show or movie. It wasn’t just his look either, the voice and mannerisms were all wrong as well. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the character Reva, she just didn’t come off as menacing enough to me I guess, I did enjoy the backstory of hers where she was a youngling looking for revenge but didn’t quite understand why her plan was so long and dragged out over more than a decade and I never for a second believed she stood any chance against Darth Vader if t came down to that.
So overall it was a pretty great show and like many others out there I really hope they release a second season as I would love to see more Vader action in any of these Star Wars series, for me it was hands down the best part of the show, there was a little stale acting here and there and the make up for the Grand Inquisitor wasn’t good at all but aside from those two things I feel that the series really delivered, especially on meshing out some of the lore more for fans.
