I love watching a show that brings me into another world filled with miracles and impossibilities, television is a great way to escape from the stresses of real life and Sci-Fi and Fantasy shows execute this perfectly. I’m currently waiting for new seasons of my favorite shows or new shows in general to get into but as of right now I’m fresh out of new stuff to watch but realizing that’s not the case for everyone I figured I’d share my favorite shows to binge. This is by no means a definitive list, simply some of my personal favorites.

Stranger Things
I feel like everyone has seen Stranger Things but to not add it to this list would be a crime. The Netflix series Created by the Duffer Brothers Stranger Things has a little bit of everything that us geek types love, a little Dungeons & Dragons, some parallel dimensions, horrific monsters and more 80’s nostalgia than you can keep track of. With a great cast featuring David Harbour, Winona Ryder and Matthew Modine this series has been great so far and just keeps getting better with no signs of slowing down. With 3 current seasons and a 4th on the way this is a great show to get into even if it’s for a second time.

Dark
Another Netflix series Dark is a German Sci-Fi series that is kind of like Stranger Things different enough to be its own thing. Although it is a German film it is dubbed in english and done pretty well so after awhile you don’t even notice. Focusing on Time Travel and all the consequences of it Dark so many twists and turns you may just have watch it 2 or 3 times to completely understand what’s going on. With 2 seasons so far there is plenty of show to sink your teeth into and it leaves things off in a way that almost guarantees future seasons.

Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
A spin-off series from the Avengers movie Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on ABC and Focuses on Phil Coulson who we last saw in the Avengers movie when Loki stabbed him and we presumed he was dead but this series shows that Nick Fury brought him back from the brink and he now runs his own team of agents. There have been 6 seasons so far with a 7th final season set to air in 2020. The show has featured some great comic book characters such as Ghost Rider, Absorbing Man and Lady Sif and is certainly worth checking out for any comic book fan.

Lost Girl
I’m honestly not sure where you can watch this show currently as it finished up quite a few years back but if you can find it and haven’t seen it you should. almost every kind of fantasy race or creature you can think of eventually makes an appearance on Lost Girl. Revolving around the life of a woman named Bo who finds out she is a succubus and gets introduced to a world full of fantastic things that she never knew existed. With 5 seasons there is plenty of show to keep you entertained for quite a while.

Game of Thrones
Based on the books by George R.R. Martin Game of Thrones ran from 2011 through 2019, airing on HBO it is a show that a lot of people spent a decade of their life with, loving characters just to have them taken away. The show focuses mainly on the Stark family but follows the lives of so many characters that you really can’t call any one character the focus of the show. It’s a masterpiece of a show and if you haven’t seen it yet you’re missing out big time. With a great cast like Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke the talent just pours right off the screen not to mention the amazing performance by Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, it’s honestly one of the best performances I’ve ever seen in anything. If you haven’t already take this 8 season journey with some of the best characters you’ll ever see on your TV screen.

The Walking Dead
Based on the Comic Books by Robert Kirkman The Walking Dead has had 10 crazy successful seasons and is one of the best shows on television right now. Based in a world where the dead rise back up and become a constant danger but over the 10 seasons the show’s true genius shines through as it starts to focus more on how humans are the real monster and we all have a bit of that monster inside when pushed to that point. Starring Andrew Lincoln, Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus and kick-starting the career of Jon Bernthal who by the way is the best version of The Punisher anyone will ever see, this show is a can’t miss.

Preacher
Based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis Preacher Airs on AMC and is the most ridiculous and twisted take on religion that you will ever see and takes you on a journey that will both amuse you and horrify you with it’s blatant blasphemy and disregard for political correctness. The show recently finished up it’s 4th and final season and is now wrapped up in a neat little package you can binge from start to finish. Starring Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun this show is tons of fun but certainly not for the whole family.

Star Trek: The Next Generation
With 178 episodes over 7 seasons there is plenty of Star Trek here for any fan of the franchise, I like the original series and a couple of the others as well but TNG has a special place in my heart, In the 5th grade I had to miss school for 3 months and this show was pretty much my best friend during that time and I mean come on…Patrick Stewart as Jean Luc Picard. You can’t go wrong there. It’s a great Sci-fi show to just sit back and relax to without all the confusing twists and turns modern Sci-Fi tends to have it won’t leave your brain hurting like some other series do.

Future Man
Created by Howard Overman and airing on Hulu Future Man depicts the story of a janitor who is visited by time travelers and told he is the only one that can save the world. the show has a great comedic spin on the time travel genre and is highly entertaining, it stars Josh Hutcherson and Haley Joel Osment and has 2 seasons so far with a third final season yet to come. Not a ton of show to binge here but it fits a lot of fun into each episode.

Rick and Morty
When Ricky and Morty first aired I had multiple friends tell me I should check it out and I just kept telling them that I’m not really a fan of cartoons but one night I was sitting bored and figured why not and you know what? It’s hands down my favorite show right now animated or otherwise, created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roil the show is pure genius with a perfectly twisted sense of humor. Following the adventure of Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty the show delves into the idea that there are infinite parallel universes with infinite versions of everyone and everything, it leaves the show with endless possibilities. With 3 seasons so far and a 4th coming in November, 2019 this one will keep you entertained for a long time to come. I have seen every episode like 100 times and am still not sick of it.

The Boys
In my opinion the best Amazon Original they’ve produced so far The Boys is set in a world where Superheroes are all too real and they’re just as flawed as the rest of us. A grittier take on the Superhero genre The Boys is all about a group of normal guys trying to take down the corrupt and twisted superheroes of the world who have started thinking themselves as basically gods. It is based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and only has 1 season so far but has already been renewed for a 2nd one. Starring Karl Urban and Elizabeth Shue this is one you don’t want to miss.

Carnival Row
Another Amazon Original Carnival Row takes us into a world where fairies are real and they are treated with bigotry and hatred, It takes the problems we deal with in the real world and explores them in a fantasy setting. Starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne this series has real potential and although it only has 1 season so far , it has already been renewed for a second and shows a bright future.

Good Omens
Yet another Amazon Original and yet another great show Good Omens is based on the novel of the same name by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. It follows the exploits of a Demon named Crowley(David Tennant) and an Angel named Aziraphale(Michael Sheen) who are best friends even though they are on different sides of the great war between good and evil. It is a nice comedic approach to the apocalypse and although is only 6 episodes is totally worth a one day binge.
