For at least a couple years now Youtube has been my favorite form of entertainment, I haven’t had cable in years, I barely watch normal TV or movies anymore, there is such a large variety of content on Youtube that you don’t really need those other forms of entertainment but lately Youtube has been getting worse and worse every day. They go overboard with their censorship, they’ll demonetize your channel with no warning and no reason given and the copyright strike system leaves your personal info wide open if you ever want to file a counterclaim when you’ve been struck down. All these issues are enough to make me want to be done with the platform but there is something else going on over at Youtube that is rubbing me and I’m sure many others the wrong way and that’s A list Hollywood celebrities popping up with their own Youtube channels everywhere.
One of the things I’ve always loved about Youtube is that most content creators are just normal people like you and me, people we can actually relate to in some fashion and now these millionaire celebrities pop up with a huge budget for their videos and instant popularity on the platform and how is the little guy ever supposed to compete with that now?
There was a time when anyone could make it big on Youtube if you just put the thought and effort into it but those days are long gone I’m afraid. Celebrities like Will Smith and Brie Larson have their own channels now and Brie Larson got over 100,000 subscribers in less than a week…Do you know how long it took most creators to reach that milestone? The thing is I’m actually a huge fan of Will Smith but it doesn’t change the fact that celebrities like him and Brie Larson coming onto the platform is going to make it near impossible for new content creators to get anywhere on the platform.
The trending pages are more and more filled with these A-listers everyday, they already have a huge following and now they are stomping all over the little creators whether they mean to or not. I have nothing bad to say about Will Smith or Brie Larson or any of the other celebrities on Youtube now but I won’t be supporting their channels, I’m going to stick to the content creators that helped to make Youtube great. By no fault of their own Hollywood actors are incredibly out of touch with what the real world is like and I came to Youtube to get away from that, I came to Youtube to watch people more like myself and support those creators that actually put their all into their channels.
I have nothing against any of these Hollywood types but there are people on Youtube that if they don’t make it have no other income and now some of those people will not become successful due to competing with celebrities with huge budgets for videos, I love their movies and shows and will continue to support them in that but I will not watch or support their channels on Youtube…hopefully Storyfire really takes off and becomes bigger than Youtube because I know for a fact I’m not the only one fed up with Youtube’s bullshit.
