Introducing Flash (2:40 – 2:50 pm)

I’m assuming this will be focused on the movie as explaining The Flash’s comic book origins would take longer than 10 minutes but I could be mistaken

I’m hoping this is going to Margot Robbie dressed up as Harley answering fans questions because that would be amazing!

The Characters in Birds of Prey and Their Origins

Harley Quinn

There have been rumors circulating since 2015 about the Birds of Prey movie and now we finally have a 2020 release date for it and with the new trailer dropping just a few days ago we got our first real look at the characters that will be in the movie. It’s based on the DC Comics all female team of heroes , although the lineup in the movie is a little different from the comic book lineup. So who are the main protagonists and antagonists of this movie, let’s take a look.

Harley Quinn

Perhaps the best known female comic book character of them all Harley Quinn will once again be played by Margot Robbie, who was perhaps the only good part of The Suicide Squad movie released a while ago but what a lot of people don’t know is how the character came about in the comics in the first place.

Unlike most comic book characters Harley Quinn didn’t make her debut in comics but rather in the Batman Animated Series in 1992, she gained such popularity that they brought her into the comics as a regular. Born as Harley Quinzel she goes to work at Arkham Asylum as a Psychologist and becomes obsessed with The Joker and becomes his “love” interest although their relationship is considered to be incredibly dysfunctional as The Joker is frequently abusive to Harley Quinn.

The Huntress

There have been three different woman that used the name Huntress in the comics but the movie will focus on Helena Bertinelli played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Helena Bertinelli is the daughter of one of Gotham’s mafia bosses and witnessing the death of her family at the hands of criminals is what drives her to become The Huntress, even becoming a member of The Justice League at one point.

Black Canary

The Black Canary Has been portrayed on the CW’s Arrow series but in Birds of Prey will be played by a different actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell. the character actually debuted in the comics way back in the 40’s and is portrayed as a martial arts expert with a sonic scream power that can shatter objects and even kill. there have been more than one woman who took the identity of Black Canary and at this point I’m not sure which one the movie is going with.

Renee Montoya

Rosie Perez has been cast as Renee Montoya who was initially created for the Batman animated series but was actually put into a few comics before her debut on the animated series in 1992. She was a detective in Gotham’s police force but is forced to retire when she comes out as gay, she often supports superheroes in their crime fighting efforts.

Victor Zsasz

Played by Chris Messina The Assassin/Serial killer Victor Zsasz is sure to add some twisted violence to the movie, known for carving marks into his face and body for each person he kills. He was portrayed perfectly on the TV series Gotham by actor Anthony Carrigan. here’s hoping Messina can also do the character justice. Zsasz will kill anyone at anytime for no reason and a character liek that can bring a lot to a movie.

Roman Sionis/Black Mask

Perhaps the thing about the movie I’m most looking forward to is seeing Ewan Mcgregor play this classic Batman villain. Black Mask has been a thorn in Batman’s side since he comic book debut back in 1985 and is often depicted as a crime boss and sadistic man who enjoys torturing others. Born to wealthy parents who cared more for money and status than they did for their son, Roman grows to resent his parents and all the kinds of people they would likely socialize with. I can’t wait to see what Ewan Mcgregor does with this character.
