While making the rounds on morning news shows Education Secretary Betsy DeVos made it pretty clear through multiple statements that she will be pushing for schools to reopen this school year. she has stated that getting back to learning is imperative and that we need to ensure students have a year or more of in class learning.
As with pretty much anything online these days people seem divided over schools reopening and they had plenty to say about it on Twitter, So as I usually do, let’s go over some of the more meaningful, thoughtful and funniest tweets regarding schools reopening.
“We need to ensure students have a full year plus of learning,” said @BetsyDeVosED on @FoxNewsSunday. “They’ve fallen behind this spring. We need to ensure they’re back in a classroom situation wherever possible and whenever possible…fully learning.” https://t.co/igg2H4ad3Q— ED Press Secretary (@EDPressSec) July 12, 2020
As you can see she seems pretty dead set on opening schools back up.
Trump is demanding schools reopen & threatening to withhold funding over it; but what if there’s an outbreak?— Heidi Przybyla (@HeidiNBC) July 12, 2020
“Schools should have plans,” says Edu Sec. Betsy DeVos, repeating declining to say how they should respond to an outbreak.
She also cited “private sector examples.”
Obviously this is more about politics than it is about our children.
“There’s going to be the exception to the rule, but the rule should be that kids go back to school this fall. And where there are little flare-ups or hot spots, that can be dealt with on a school-by-school or case-by-case basis,” @BetsyDeVosED on @CNNSotu https://t.co/hCamtLEz9K— ED Press Secretary (@EDPressSec) July 12, 2020
“Little flare ups” sounds so harmless right?
Should teachers who are at risk because of their age or have an underlying illness go back into the classroom if they don’t feel comfortable? “That’s something for them to work out with their local district,” Education Secretary Betsy DeVos tells @DanaBashCNN.— Kaitlan Collins (@kaitlancollins) July 12, 2020
Very fair question.
Betsy DeVos to @DanaBashCNN on @CNNSotu. “There’s nothing in the data that would suggest that kids being back in school is dangerous to them.” DeVos downplays possibility kids can pass virus along to others. DeVos also won’t say if schools should listen to CDC guidelines— Manu Raju (@mkraju) July 12, 2020
Still need to think about the people the kids go home to after school…
Nancy Pelosi was having none of it…
Betsy Devos called the CDC’s guidelines for reopening schools “common sense” in a break from Trump, who previously said the rules are too burdensome. They agree, though, that children should return to class in the fall https://t.co/jxsEfcULb9— POLITICO (@politico) July 12, 2020
I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens with all of this.
Just because I post something doesn’t mean I agree with it.
